Teaching Assistant SEMH Focus Brent

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs helping them to engage in learning and develop coping strategies.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) in collaboration with teachers and SEN staff.
  • Foster a positive and calm classroom environment that supports emotional regulation and social interaction.
  • Monitor and track student progress providing regular feedback to teachers and parents on emotional and academic development.
  • Work closely with the pastoral team to address emotional and behavioural challenges promoting positive mental health and wellbeing.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities and interventions that focus on social skills development and emotional resilience.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
  • A compassionate patient and resilient approach to supporting students with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers SENCOs and parents.
  • Relevant qualifications in education youth work or mental health support (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification) are desirable.
  • A DBS check is required.
