SEN Specialist Teaching Assistant Hammersmith & Fulham

A primary school in Hammersmith & Fulham is seeking a dedicated SEN Specialist Teaching Assistant to work with children with sensory impairments. Experience in special educational needs (SEN) is essential along with a passion for helping children succeed in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with sensory impairments adapting teaching methods to suit individual needs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with teachers and the SENCO.
  • Foster a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages student participation and confidence.
  • Work closely with external specialists such as occupational therapists and speech therapists to integrate recommended strategies into the classroom.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate effectively with teachers and parents regarding achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to sensory impairments and SEN.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working with children with sensory impairments or special educational needs in a school setting is essential.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students and their families.
  • A patient and empathetic approach with a genuine desire to help children succeed.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or child development (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification) are desirable.
  • A DBS check is required.
