SEN Teaching Assistant Autism & Sensory Needs Lambeth

A primary school in Lambeth is actively seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide essential support for students with autism and sensory processing challenges. This role is integral in fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide sensoryfriendly support in the classroom to enhance the learning experience for students with autism and sensory processing challenges.
  • Implement calming techniques and sensory breaks tailored to individual students needs ensuring they feel safe and focused during lessons.
  • Collaborate closely with the SENCO and classroom teachers to develop and adapt lesson plans that accommodate sensory needs and promote engagement.
  • Monitor and document students responses to various teaching strategies and sensory activities providing feedback to the SENCO for further adjustments.
  • Build trusting relationships with students encouraging their social interactions and helping them navigate the school environment comfortably.
  • Engage with parents and caregivers to provide updates on student progress and share effective strategies to support learning at home.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience supporting students with autism and sensory processing needs is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with sensory integration techniques and interventions that promote engagement and learning.
  • A calm patient and flexible approach to working with students with diverse needs.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a team and maintain open lines of communication with parents.
  • A clear DBS check is required to ensure the safety and welfare of all students.
